Muco-Solve®: Biofilm
The key to a healthy body and healthy brain is a healthy gut. The gastro- intestinal (GI) tract is the first line of defense against pathogens from the outside world. Our gut lining is supposed to have an abundance of commensal bacteria, yeast, viruses and parasites, sitting on its surface, called the human microbiome. These good microbes/bacteria help us develop an appropriate immune response. Without the right types and numbers of these important microbes, we may develop allergies, autoimmunity, obesity, mood disorders, colitis, metabolic syndrome and other chronic conditions.
Overuse of antibiotics, pharmaceuticals, allergens or other toxic insults often lead to microbiome depletion, allowing pathogenic bacteria and yeast/fungus to overgrow. Some of these pathogenic organisms, such as Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Pseudomonas, E.coli, Borrellia, and Candida, produce a matrix to protect themselves from our own immune systems. The matrix, which is made up of sugar (saccharides), fibrin (protein), DNA and minerals (Iron, Calcium and Magnesium), is called a “Pathogenic Biofilm”.
These pathogenic biofilm communities account for the majority of all microbial infections in the human body and more than 65% of hospital-acquired infections. The microbes hiding under biofilms are highly resistant to both immunologic and non-specific defense mechanisms of the body. As the microbes reproduce, they continue to produce toxic byproducts that may be detrimental to our health. Luckily, Scientists have discovered various strategies to help penetrate these unhealthy biofilms. Enzymes have the potential to degrade components of the biofilm and have been used to help eradicate persistent infections in the lining of the sinuses, gums, lungs, urinary tract and prosthetic devices. Weak organic acids have also been shown to help dissolve these films by pulling iron and calcium from the matrix.
Muco-Solve® contains a combination of unique enzymes that have the ability to dissolve the polysaccharide and fibrin components of biofilm. It also contains small quantities of a weak organic acid that help bind the metals, like iron and calcium, that hold the biofilm together. When these metals are removed from the biofilm, the film will detach. Because this enzyme lacks any significant amount of protease, which can irritate a sensitive GI tract, Muco-Solve ™ can be taken on an empty stomach. In fact, it may be recommended by clinicians to use this product on an empty stomach followed by appropriate natural or pharmaceutical antimicrobials that target a specific bug or bugs residing in the biofilm community.
Muco-Solve® can be used as a temporary adjunctive treatment to help restore gut health. Microbiome restoration requires more than just recognizing a pathogen and killing it to help regain a healthy flora. It may also require a healthy, nutritious whole food diet, high in fiber, flavonoids, isoflavones, Probiotics and Prebiotics. Your clinician can help guide you through this process to help regain True Health.
